Skate 4 Best Settings

Skate lets you play however you want. But if you prefer a realistic experience, these settings will make the game smoother, cleaner, and closer to real skateboarding.

General Settings

  • Turn Off UI Elements: Name tags, score ticker, d-pad, and flick visualizer. This removes screen clutter, perfect for filming clips.
  • Pedestrians & Traffic: Optional. You can disable them if you want a cleaner world.
  • Compass & Party UI: These cannot be turned off (for now).

Camera Settings

On-Board Camera

  • Horizontal Follow Strength: 5
  • Vertical Follow Strength: 5
  • FOV: +75 to +80
  • Maintain Camera Distance: Off
  • On-board Camera Offset: 4
  • Camera Framing: High

Off-Board Camera

  • Horizontal Sensitivity: 30
  • Vertical Sensitivity: 30
  • Horizontal Follow Strength: 5
  • Vertical Follow Strength: 5
  • FOV: +85
  • Maintain Camera Distance: On
  • Off-board Default Pitch: -12
  • Invert Controls: Off

How to Change Camera Angle in Skate 4

  1. Press ESC in-game → go to the Hub → press 1 or click the cog icon.
  2. Open Gameplay Settings.
  3. Adjust Field of View (FOV) and other camera options.
    • FOV ranges from +50 to +120 (in steps of 5).
  4. From the start screen, you can also press 1 to open Accessibility and set on-board and off-board camera angles there.

In short: Go to Gameplay Settings → adjust FOV and camera preferences → test best settings above for smoother tricks and better visibility.

Controls & Stance

  • Flick Sensitivity: 0 (lets you do slow, controlled flips).
  • Hold Fakey Stance: On (keeps stance realistic like Skater XL and Session).
  • Push Controls: Right foot = A (Xbox) / X (PS). Left foot = X (Xbox) / Square (PS). Always stays the same in any stance.

Assists

  • Grind Assist: 5–10. Zero feels buggy and inconsistent.
  • Pump Assist: Lower it or set to zero if you want full manual pumping.
  • Allow Fall Height: 1 or 2 for challenges (Setting it to 0 makes big gaps almost impossible to land).
  • Minimum Pop Height: 0 (lowest possible pop).
  • Friendly Wipeout Threshold: Off.
  • Other Assists: Turn off streamline tricks, semi-auto pumping, and low-air spin prevention for realism.

Trick Toggles

Keep these on to expand trick variety: Held flips, Late flips, Slappies, Firecrackers, Wallies and Quick ollies.

Pre-Wind Spins:

  • Best option = Hold in Spin Direction (instant input, less lag).
  • Alternative = Flick in Spin Direction (feels natural but has slight delay).

Advanced Realism Tips

  • Popless Grinds: Press B (Xbox) / Circle (PS) to cancel the grind, then flick your trick. This keeps tricks low and realistic.
  • Pinched Grinds: Use the left stick angle (5 or 7 o’clock) to pinch grinds for extra style.
  • Manual Pumping: Use triggers or left stick timing at the bottom of ramps for realistic speed control.

Controller Tip

Playing with a PS5 DualSense controller makes a huge difference. You can actually feel surface changes, gaps, and even the direction of movement through vibration. It’s insanely immersive and feels closer to real skateboarding.

If you have the budget, the DualSense Edge adds back triggers for even more control. But even the standard DualSense is worth it for its material simulation alone.

Final Notes

These settings balance realism and smooth gameplay. Most changes are personal preference, so test and adjust. For clips and realistic skating, focus on low camera, low pop, and minimal assists.
